New Balance Releases Collection of 1/1 Sneakers

March 05, 2020

With the massive amounts of materials that are wasted during sneaker production, New Balance created the Made in US 998 Limited sneaker. Crafted mostly from scrap materials, the sneaker follows the silhouette of the original 998 sneakers, but with a more sustainable approach. The campaign pictures the shoes deconstructed with the scrap fabrics laying around.

There are 5 possible predetermined colourways that are selected at random upon purchase. Each pair is crafted from surplus fabrics such as the suede sides, mesh toe, and pigskin overlay. With only 100 pairs made and each pair being 1/1, this drop is very exclusive. The sneakers released earlier this morning, but unfortunately, have already sold out.

A few other sneaker companies have taken a similar approach to demonstrate their sustainability acts. For example, Nike is set to release its Space Hippie footwear collection, which is made from scrap materials during production. Adidas launched its Parley footwear collection which is made from 100% recycled materials.
